Home Education Days

Following the success of our first Home Education Day this year, we will be holding two Home Education Days in 2026 – 

  • 15 January 2026
  • 1 July 2026

Explore.Experiment.Learn

Join us for our next Home Education Day at the RAF Museum London on Thursday 15 January 2026, 10.00am–4.00pm.
Designed for home-educated learners aged 5–16 years, this exciting day brings science, engineering, and history to life.

Hands-On Learning Adventures

Enjoy a full day of live shows, drop-in activities, and hands-on learning inspired by our world-class RAF collection.

Activities will include:

  • A Science Show
  • Rocket-making workshops
  • An Engineering Challenge
  • Hands-on experiences with Museum objects

We’ll explore exciting topics across STEM and History, encouraging learners to think, build and discover.

Plan Your Day

Bring your lunch and enjoy a relaxed one-hour break (12.30–1.30pm) in our picnic and social area.

There’s also:

  • A colouring zone for younger learners
  • A quiet workspace for older learners with laptops
  • Access to The Hendon Kitchen (restaurant), Shop, 4D Theatre, and Flight Simulator
  • A Learning Centre Room for prayer
  • Quiet Rooms available in H1, H3 and H6

Tickets and Parking

  • £7.50 per learner – includes all activities
  • £5.00 £10.00 per vehicle all-day parking

Younger siblings welcome, although activities are aimed at children aged 5+

No need to book tickets for children under 5.

Children under 11 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Sensitive Content – Some Museum areas display firearms, ordinance, and projectiles as part of our historic collection. These will not feature in the day’s activities, but we want you to be aware before your visit.

Museum visits

The Museum is free to visit. You can book tickets in advance or simply turn up on the day. The collection can help bring to life many learning themes such as the First and Second World Wars; Transport; Inventions; Materials etc.

The RAF Museum offers a range of exciting learning videos which you can watch at home. Use these to stimulate some great learning.

The videos available are:

Teddy’s Travels (EYFS)

Teddy, the RAF bear, has been so busy taking care of things in the Museum that he has lost his medal! Join Teddy and his friends on their search as they virtually explore different types of transport, from helicopters that help people to the fast and flashy Red Arrows. (12 minutes)

Fantastic Flight (KS1)

From the Wright Brothers to supersonic flight, find out how planes fly and how designs have changed. This video explores 100 years of flight, finding out about our amazing aircraft and sharing real-life stories from the RAF. (15 minutes)

Air Raid (KS2)

Hear from an Air Raid Warden at the height of the Blitz in 1940. Find out how to stay safe during raids and what needs to happen when the enemy pays you a visit! (22 minutes)

Battle of Britain (Upper KS2)

What were the key events during the Battle of Britain? Why was the RAF so important? Find out the answers to these questions and more in the film ‘Our Finest Hour’. (12 minutes)

Pilots of the Caribbean (Upper KS2)

Join us for a journey through time exploring the lives of RAF service men and women from African and Caribbean heritage. Travel from the First World War to the Second World War and on to modern times, exploring these amazing stories. (29 minutes)

Each learning video costs £20. 

Once you have made your booking you will be sent the link and password needed for you to watch the video. Videos can be enjoyed by individual families who home educate or else can be requested by a co-ordinator who may book on behalf of a group.
