Historic Hendon: Community Pottery
20 September - 25 November 2024
Hangar 2 – Community Exhibition Space
Cost: Free Entry
Inspired by the rich aviation history of Hendon, a group of local residents created the unique ceramic pieces showcased in this exhibition. They engaged in a series of workshops jointly organised by the Museum and Maxability, a local charity that runs inclusive pottery classes.
Local adults and young people discovered the history of the Museum’s site, including its origins as the London Aerodrome and the role RAF Hendon played in the Battle of Britain. Participants viewed films and photographs from the Museum’s collection and interacted with objects from our handling collection, giving a tactile opportunity to connect with their local history.
This project was a partnership between the Museum and Maxability.
Maxability
Anita and Emile Woolf established Maxability in 2009 to enhance the lives of disabled adults in the London Borough of Barnet. Located in the Flightways Centre in Colindale, Maxability has a fully equipped pottery studio and provides a caring, supportive and creative environment.
Maxability’s mission is to enable participants to develop their creative potential through inclusive ceramics classes, providing sessions for disabled adults as well as those without a disability.
