RAF Museum joins Movement to Work

Published on: 12 February 2024

The Royal Air Force Museum is delighted to have become a member of Movement to Work, the UK’s largest employer collaboration to tackle youth unemployment.

Movement to Work is a not-for-profit coalition of UK employers, youth-outreach organisations, training providers and government allies, all aiming to level the playing field for young people aged 16-30 facing barriers to work. To date, over 175,000 opportunities have been delivered, made possible by employers, charities and Government working together.

As a delivery partner, Movement to Work works with employers to design bespoke youth employability programmes, either in-house or through one of their recommended training providers.

As a new member, the RAF Museum is currently developing an exciting work experience programme that will provide insight into careers within museums and the heritage sector. Trial work experience placements are now available across the Museums London and Midlands sites, with a full programme of opportunities being rolled out later this year.

RAF Museum Apprenticeship and Skills Pathway Manager, Sophie Millward said:

‘We are excited to have pledged with Movement to Work – a fantastic initiative to tackle youth unemployment. As part of our Inspiring People Strategy, we have introduced our skills pathways programme, which aims to break down barriers into museum working through work experience placements, traineeships, internships, and apprenticeships. We recognise that all of our departments are what makes our Museum – and we are keen to show young people the plethora of opportunities that a museum can provide. By pledging with Movement to Work, we are furthering our commitment to social mobility by providing exciting experiences and helping to level the playing field for young people.’

Movement to Work Chief Operating Officer, James McCann added:

‘We are absolutely delighted to welcome the Royal Air Force Museum into our growing network of employers who are committed to breaking down barriers to employment for young people. We are here to help to ensure their programmes deliver real impact for their organisation, for society, and, most importantly, for the young people themselves.’
