Summer celebrations at Battle of Britain Proms

Get ready for thrilling summer celebrations at the Battle of Britain Proms, coming to the Royal Air Force Museum Midlands on Saturday 13 August. This open-air concert will take place on the airfield, featuring live music, family entertainment and a spectacular Spitfire flying display!

Audiences will enjoy an assortment of musical entertainment, everything from classical to pop, and opera to swing, in a unique outdoor setting with a backdrop of aircraft and historic hangars!

Held in partnership with Fizz Festivals, the Battle of Britain Proms promises an unforgettable afternoon into evening filled with fun for all the family, featuring performances from top musical talent, accompanied by food, flying and fizz.

Hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Paul Shuttleworth, visitors will enjoy a packed programme, with six hours of toe-tapping live music. The line-up will feature a full repertoire of traditional proms favourites, as well as a selection of modern classics from solo performers, bands, and an orchestra providing a rousing finale.

A stunning flying display from the iconic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire is guaranteed to wow crowds as it flies overhead at 3.00pm to celebrate and commemorate those who fought in the Battle of Britain (weather permitting).

On the ground, visitors of all ages can test their own musical talent with an interactive installation built from up-cycled objects turned into instruments and sound experiments. Face painting and glitter tattoos will get youngsters into the festival spirit with exciting designs to choose from. Listen out for two of the most iconic Battle of Britain engines, the Merlin XX and the Bristol Hercules Mk216 engine, during regular demonstrations throughout the day.

Bring along picnic blankets and set the scene with union jack bunting and hand waving flags, or why not sit back and enjoy the show in one of our comfy deckchairs available to hire. Treat yourself to a picnic hamper full of delicious delicacies, with a choice of three menus to choose from, the hampers are readily prepared for you to pick up on arrival. Street food stalls will be offering a tasty selection of hot food and bars will be keeping visitors topped up with refreshing beverages.
