The Mini was launched in 1959 to compete with the popular “bubble car”. Excellent handling compensated for the low power and success was achieved in motor sport. Sales were boosted by its popularity with the rich and famous and it became an icon of the 1960s. By the time production ended, over 5.3 million had been produced.
