The FW190A-8 was a fighter-bomber version of the ‘Butcher Bird’, and was produced in greater numbers than any other sub-type. This variant was very effective in combat below 7,000m/22,965ft due to the performance of its BMW 801 powerplant. Some 19,500 Fw190s of all types were built, serving until the end of the European war in May 1945; a few served until c.1948 with the Turkish Air force.
