Red Dean was an Air-to-Air Missile project started in late 1952. The missile was to use a pulse doppler guidance system. However, the technology was not available and an equivalent missile did not achieve sales until the 1970s. There were several technical difficulties which were also hampered by a belief that manned interceptors would soon be a thing of the past. All projects associated with Red Dean were cancelled in 1956-57.
