Object details

Squadron Leader Henry Hogan was the Commanding Officer of No. 501 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. On 18 September, in Hurricane V6620, he went to intercept a formation of Heinkel He 111s near RAF West Malling. His aircraft was hit by fire from their escorting Messerschmitt Bf 109s but, using this release handle, he was able to inflate his parachute and escape unhurt from the damaged aircraft.
