Bethany Trober – Learning Host

What I do
I’m a Learning Host and my role is to look after school groups and make sure that they get to workshops on time. I also make sure they know where to meet for lunch and where to find me and the Access and Learning staff if they need us.

What I love
Meeting with different schools. Sometimes you get children who go to school just around the corner and they have never even visited the RAF Museum before. Whereas you have other schools who have come in from miles away to visit. Either way, it’s great getting to meet and work with so many children with such a different variety of backgrounds.

What I get
In my second year of university doing primary education I realised teaching (in schools) wasn’t for me. However, I still wanted to find a way into education and to work with children, so I looked at opportunities online and came across the role of a Learning Host.

At first, I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to get into teaching in Museums, but I saw it as a first step in the right direction. This was what encouraged me apply, as well as having fond childhood memories of the RAF Museum. Now I feel I have so much, as the role has given me experience in education and helped me to realise my future ambition of creating educational workshops for children in Museums.
